MEETING MINUTES

National Honor Society

  • Membership in the NHS is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student.  Our chapter supports the Society’s standards of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.  These four ideals are considered for the selection process.  Members attend monthly meetings and participate in chapter service projects, as well as individual service projects.  Membership in the GRACE Christian Academy Chapter not only provides opportunity for personal growth and community service, but also nationwide recognition and eligibility to NHS-specific scholarships.

Eligibility:

  • Students in the 9th – 12th grades with a cumulative GPA of 3.70 or greater
  • Students must demonstrate a high standard of scholarship, leadership, service, and character by providing evidence of their involvement in community, extra-curricular and school activities and events.

How to become a member:

  • Invitation-only, based on GPA & student character.
  • Membership fee of $10 – DUE BY MARCH 30th
(Please ignore the due date listed on the Invitation Letter(s) – they were printed before due date was adjusted.)

Service Hours:

  • 10 hours volunteer service required for NHS.
  • Volunteer community service hours are defined as work/service done by the student, away from his or her own home, without any compensation (i.e. pay, school/youth group credit), and serving the community in some capacity. Examples: Working at a food bank, meal delivery to shut-ins, helping a teacher after school.
  • Hours may only be used once. However, hours may be split between NHS & BETA. For example, if a student volunteered for 8 hours, 3 hours could go towards NHS, and 5 hours could go towards BETA.
  • Service Hours forms must have the supervisor’s signature/initials for each activity, with the exception of activities that have been supervised by Ms. Blackerby. Students are responsible for keeping track of hours on their own form.
  • Service hours must be from a minimum of TWO different activities/events. (If you are in NHS & BETA, you would need FOUR different activities/events.
  • Service hour deadline: 10 hours due April 27th
